How African Culture Helped Conserved the Environment.

I would never stop mentioning growing-up, this is because its excitement is never exhaustible, one will always continue to reminiscence on it for a very long time. Just like everybody my root traces back to a village, somewhere in Delta state, a serene, greener and one time rural area now turned urban, though the duplication of the environment started many years ago, one can acknowledge that back those days it was better than what we now have .
It was common then to see a large vast of land left uncultivated and unused gradually developing into a forest, kept aside for cultural purpose, those days one is not allowed to build, farm or even urinate on such land as it would be regarded as a taboo to do that. The funniest aspect of these is that nobody expert for the chief priest and the traditional prime minister enters such scared place and usually annually.
Before the 2000s, there exists another area of land which has thick, heavy and gigantic trees just behind the palace of the traditional ruler. It’s held that before enthronement of a new king whether young or old he/she is expected to climb such tree to the top and from there make an announcement, part of the reason for doing these is to check his/her strength, patience and courage at the same time conserving such area of land for traditional purpose.
There also exist known laws than that nobody builds farms or use any parcel of land for whatever purpose without due permission from the traditional institution in the kingdom, this helped checkmate encroachment by straighter from neighboring villages and town.
My father had told me how they would divide a piece of land into two equal half, farm on one side and allow the other side to fallow for like 3years or more depending on family size and other land available and later returning to such land to farm. The purpose of these they say was to give the land time to recover lost nutrient. He likened the land to a woman who just delivered a baby, needing time to recover before conceiving again.
In all of these, it was clear that they were conserving the environment unknown to them. They were certainingly doing those things for different reason, at the
same time maintaining the environment. AND NOW civilization and development has eroded lot and lots of our good past away, leaving us with highly chemical agricultural produce (in the name of fertilizers) with erosion, floods, high temperature and unnecessary high rainfall (just as predicted by NIMET, The Nigerian meteorological Management Board for 2013). Looking back one is tempted to ask if we had a better past or a brighter tomorrow with regards to climate change issues.

Do you use CFC’s

The answer i would get if i put this question to a poll is outright NO,but wait a minute,is the answer really NO.Read and than re-answer.
MEANING: ChloroFluoroCarbon are derivative of methane(hydrocarbons) and contains carbon, chlorine, hydrogen and fluorine, they are harmfull chemicals and very toxic.
USES:
*They are widely used as coolants in air conditioners and in refrigerators(that your frige and AC has CFC).
*As a cleaning solvent for domestic and industries(that cleaning agent you use for your hard floors, rug and kitchen has CFC).
*In fire extinguishing equipment(that extinguisher has CFC).
*In foam insulators and especially as aerosal propellants(used as dispensers in perfumes, deodourant, insecticdes etc).
EFFECTS:CFC released from various source rise up in the atmosphere and breakdown ozone molecules in the earth’s upper atmosphere. This reduces the ability of the atmosphere to prevent too much of ultraviolet(UV) rays reaching the earth’s surface. This in turn cause too much heating reaching the earth causing the ICE in oceans to melt and release much water(flooding),it also cause dehydration, desertification etc.
SOLUTION:The use of this harmful chemical has been discontinued by legislations of many countries, but it can only stop if we individual sincerely reduce the use and release of this harmfull chemicals into the atmosphere.
AND NOW:Iwould like to ask again DO YOU USE CFC’s.

Not the FIRST, Not the LAST.

Just before she berthed in Nigeria ,her footprints were in Japan, some part of The UK,Bangladesh,Brazil,Sri Lanka and Austriali within just one year,She had caused alot of havoc around the world, single handedly carrying out her plans, visiting urbans, rural and slums, chasing people out of their domain.
In other countries before her arrival there had be announcement in varrious media, people were prepared to face her, while in some cointries she was on unsheduled visit, hitting by surprisethans to their well developed RESPONDS SERVICE the causalities would have been much.
In Nigeria the story can not be said to be the same her visit though announced six months age ,but she took us all by surprise in magnitude,in length and in scope with emergency service overstressed and latter stranded.
Oh what a bad visitor at a bad time for a developing economy like Nigeria, the injuries caused by this visit wound take long time to heal.oh FLOOD.

ARE YOU CONCERNED?

Overtime i have taken it upon myself to ask this question, what really catches people’s attention? what do people debate on? which issue currently burns the heart of people? But it down on me that the issue which people talk about ranges from fashion, football, sex, music e.t.c.Some of the most contenous issues are only heard on tv, radio and on blogs like this but what do people do thereafter?
The existance of man has brought out alot of issue boarding on our collective existance, things we never knew and those we will never know, but the most important thing now is what do you really spend your time thinking.Pls lets all join hands and make GLOBAL WARMING our collective concern and a global issue.

WE ALL CAUSED THIS FLOOD

Untill recently in my home country Nigeria, when the issue of global warming comes up nobody pay attention.it is regarded as lazy mens topic. Not untill we were ‘blessed with TOO MUCH WATER’ nobody was ready to sacrifics for global warming.
Directly it was called Natural disaster, but indirectly we were the cause, there were signs calling for urgent attention, the smokes were visible but nobody cared, from the middle belt down to the south-south and to the heart of the Niger Delta ,it happened so bad and left us with nothing but tears, broken heart, mourning and sorrows.Spreading from the rich to the poor sweeping communties like sand, rendering people homeless and refuge in their own land, making children orphange, women widows and men widowers.
It had happened and there is nothing anybody can do about it.But the big question is how do we prevent this incident from reoccuring?
